Web & App Services
Prosentient applies industry-leading solutions to information-intensive web applications and apps developed across IOS (iPhone/iPad), Android and Windows Phone.
We provide professional consulting services on web and app-based deployment, integration and hosting of information management products, such as Content Management Systems (CMSs). Our solutions are typically built around tried and tested open source software components. We can also provide systems integration assistance and data conversion.
Prosentient Systems has developed a Carpool application that is sustainable, easy to use, efficient and fun, and is already operating in a number of local government areas. The application is scalable, and can be used on desktops, tablets and smartphones, connecting passengers with drivers who are doing a similar trip. In 2015 the Western Sydney Carpool Project Group won the NSW Blue Star Community Environmental Award.
Prosentient Systems: Research & Publications
Prosentient Systems has been engaged in the development of information retrieval and data intensive and internet information systems for over 20 years.
Dr. Balnaves is a member of ALIA (Australian Library Information Association), IEEE, and is a standing committee member of the Information Technology Section of IFLA (International Federation of Library Asociations). Dr Balnaves is also actively engaged in research in the area of systematic digital content management, desktop servics supporting digital services and the information commons.
Areas of research focus for Prosentient Systems includes: library systems and services, open source systems and communities, information retrieval systems and systematic reuse of digital content.
As more content is "born digital", we are looking at desktop systems for archiving content. The internet is a very convenient and cost effective way for creating and delivering electronic documents such as journals, but it creates a further requirement for the long-term and safe storage of electronic resources in an archive.
Open source systems
We undertake workshops, software development and cross-system integration in open source systems. This has included:
- Our workshop with the UN Centre for Global ICT on open source library management systems, Rome 2010
- Our workshop with the UN Centre for Global ICT on open source digital library systems, Puerto Rico 2011
- Edmund's UN Handbook for ICT in Parliamentary Libraries, made in conjunction with an International Committee of Parliamentary librarians
We are also working on various aspects of integration between open source library systems:
- Joomla with Koha
- Joomla with DSpace
- Koha and DSpace cross integration
